Meg the Champion Honey Packer: How Your Honey Arrives Safely (and Sustainably)

You are, without doubt, the best packer I have ever come across!
I just collected my package from The Beekeeper, which is always very exciting. I think looking after bees, although extremely hard work and very challenging, would be my dream job! They are such amazing creatures and they always remind me that life should be simple and uncomplicated.
But enough of that. Thank you again for my honey. I’m glad you recycle the innards of the metres of packing tape that you use!
Recycled packaging: honey delivery with less waste
Our loyal and eagle-eyed customer spotted something we don’t often talk about: we recycle and reuse our packaging materials wherever we can.
Boxes get reused. Packing materials get a second life. Even the cardboard cores from the packing tape get reused.
We’ll be honest, recycling packaging is fiddly. It takes longer. We have to store it. It would be much quicker to buy everything new and shiny and throw the rest away. But we work with bees every day, and bees don’t waste anything. The least we can do is follow their lead.
So if your honey order arrives in a box that’s clearly had a previous life, that’s not us cutting corners. That’s us doing our bit for the environment that our bees (and all of us) depend on.
Who packs your honey when you order online?
If you’ve ordered honey online from us at The BeeKeeper®, chances are Meg packed it. Meg is our head beekeeper Daryl’s mum, and she’s the one who wraps the jars, and makes sure your Australian honey arrives at your door in one piece. That’s right, we’re not a factory manned by robots or mixing in imported honey. We know the trees where our bees have fed because we’re the ones who look after them there. Then we bring the honey supers back to the shed, extract the honey, bottle it and then Meg takes it from there.
Packing honey for postage is harder than it sounds.
Honey is heavy. It travels in glass or a tub. And parcels don’t always get treated like they’re carrying something precious (even though ours are). One jar of honey bouncing around a delivery van has plenty of opportunities to come to grief between our apiary north of Port Macquarie, NSW and your kitchen bench.
Which is why Meg’s track record as our honey packer is genuinely something to be proud of. Jar after jar, order after order, our honey arrives safe and sound with the rarest of mishaps (and only one recently which we’re still trying to get to the bottom of!).
